You
are invited to submit a written application as
specified below. The assessment panel will review
all the written applications and draw up a short
list of applicants who will be asked to attend an
interview. You will be advised at this stage whether
you have been selected for interview. The interviews
are held in the autumn at the Innholders’ Hall
in the City of London. The assessment panel will
award the scholarships following the interviews and
you will be informed of the final decision without
delay. The courses being offered should be taken
during 2011.
Applicants for scholarships should be currently
employed in the UK hospitality industry. Most applicants
will be working in hotels, but applications are also
welcomed from people working in related businesses
such as conference centres and restaurants. We are
unlikely to consider applications from people working
in contract catering, the armed forces or the public
sector.
This year the application processis being handled by
the Institute of Hospitality on behalf of the Master
Innholders. Applications should be sent to: Sarah.debouter@instituteofhospitality.org

training and development courses you have undertaken.

It will also be helpful to know if you are involved
in furthering the interests of the hospitality industry.
For example, have you been, or are you currently

with schools or colleges, particularly regarding
the new 14 to 19 Diplomas?
5. Your CV should be no more than one
page long and
should be confined to key information on positions
held, dates, and should exclude achievements and
accolades.
Reasons why you are applying
We receive many more applications than we can offer
places. In order for you to improve your chances
of being invited for an interview, you need to “sell” yourself
well. The assessment panel needs to understand
your motivation in applying for a scholarship.
Quite simply, if you don’t tell them, they
cannot be expected to know!
Please explain why you need scholarship funds, for
example that your employer is not in a position to
fund such a course.
You should state what you expect to gain from the
course and why you believe attending will help your
career.
Endorsement
You are encouraged to ask your employer (or another
senior manager you know) to send an email letter,
endorsing your application.
